Our social network www.toonpool.com, founded in 2008 and based in Berlin, is
collecting editorial cartoons, caricatures and illustrations by currently 2500
artists from more than 160 nations, filled up with 130000 artworks for now – a
portfolio which increases about 3 – 4 new artworks hour by hour. One of the
most active groups among this worldwide family of artists is based on our 655
members from Turkey who are part of the community's soul - and our powerful
cardiac pacemaker sometimes. And I am happy to say that they are all good
friends I feel related with. With this background of a connection to many Turkish
cartoonists, it was a great joy and honor for me to become acquainted with Dr.
Murat Erdogan in order to assist him in selecting editorial cartoons of
professional German cartoonists concerning Dr. Erdoganʼs project of „50 Yil 50
Karikatür - Alman Karikatüristlerinin Gözüyle Türkler“. Turkish migration is most
important for Germany and other countries in central Europe and apart from
many difficulties, debates and misunderstandings joining it, there is an old
German proverb telling: „Teasing is a sign of affection“. I am convinced that a
famous quote of former German chancellor Willy Brandt – which he used to
unite West an East German citizens after the fall of the Berlin Wall – is
applicable to Turkish and German people too:...that may grow together what
belongs together. I would like to express my gratitude to Murat, meanwhile a
friend, for the exciting experience to work with him.
