A souvenir from planet Earth
Ok, what do we got here? A classic turquoise alien with almond-shaped eyes, wearing a casual urban tourist outfit, the obligatory I♥NY shirt.
But what the hell is this? There is no heart symbol which would express that the alien loves New York. There is some sort of cryptic, alienesque symbol, looking like crop circles or an interstellar alphabet letter.
»Alien t-shirt« by neilo is funny at first glance and a great comment on typography and symbolism when you look twice. neilo created a cultural study by replacing the heart symbol, a logo first used by the Cro-Magnon before the last Ice Age, later used in our today's meaning as a stylistic development of the biblical fig leave.
»Alien t-shirt« spoofs the well-known I♥NY rebus created by graphic designer Milton Glaser for the New York State Department of Commerce to improve tourism in the State (not just in NYC). That was in 1977. The logo became as popular and - boring - as Che Guevara shirts. neilo made a refreshing redesign for alien tourists.
