Terracotta Jump

Long jump onto terracotta warriors, sport as a war substitute: an exchange of blows of the odd variety. The further the athlete jumps, the more the semi-silted, earthy brown army is opposing him. In this absurd Olympic discipline by Pawel Kuczynski (Poland), sport mockingly eliminates culture. Flying feet above unsuspecting clay faces - dignified history beneath a spectacular moment. Yet it remains open who will be hurt more in the end, the shattered culture or the athlete, who lands ruggedly on the fossilised witnesses of ancient history...

Member		I'm not entirely certain, but I think it's a commentary on the Beijing Olympic Games. Maybe Kuczynski was trying to represent the idea that China is destroying its culture with its modern developments. Those clay statues are representations of the terracotta army, which was buried in Emperor Qin Shi Huang's tomb.
