A Dose of Dali – in the Shape of Pearls
Everyone knows it: the unreal landscapes in a dislocated perspective where grotesque figures with weedy legs live a kind of fantasy existence. Caught in a time with no beginning or end, symbolised by the clock threatening to melt. This is of course the Spanish painter Salvador Dali. Toni DAgostinho from Sao Paulo has painted the master of all masks as a vain pretender, himself a victim of his own surreal dreams. The hairstyle is still impeccable but the twirled moustache has already shifted and the speech-organ has melted into the shape of a pearl. Now we realise why the painter always had his picture taken with his eyes wide open. He must have anticipated even then, what jokes DAgostinho would one day play on him.
