Horror is Pop
Stanley Kubrick would have enjoyed this picture: Jack Nicholson as the crazy writer Jack Torrence, who hurtles his famous film quote on Johnny Carson "Heeeere is Johnny" into the Bathroom of the Overlook-Hotel. Not less impressive, but only existent in our imagination: shaking with fear, the face of Wendy, played by Shelley Duvall, has also etched itself into our cinematic memory. George Williams utilises the pop art technique of Roy Lichtenstein, using grid surfaces, to put horror as a consumer good into a surreal abstraction. A potential serial killer is turned into a serial piece of art.
