Duckomenta!
Jean Paul Marat. The revolutionary in the bathtub, stabbed to death with a kitchen knife by Charlotte Corday. An image we've all seen at some time or other. No, not the hapless German politician Uwe Barschel, but Jacques-Louis David (1748 - 1825). Yet something is different . . . . Of course! The rubber duck that Corday has also done in. And the signature: "Done by Duck." With this image - confusingly true to the original - Pawel Kuczynski provides an ironic footnote on the French Revolution. Every major historical event, no matter how momentous, ends up as a soap opera in the media's regurgitation of history. Duckburg is everywhere. Kuczynski wants to fool us with this perfect illusion. The heroic images of the French Revolution - the stuff of comic books.
