When Duty Calls...
Germany’s tobacco tax continues to rise significantl. And again selfless political leaders, of course, claim to be acting altruistically by guiding masses of long-suffering smokers back onto the path of abstinence. But in the very best satirical tradition, German artist Dorit David suggests that the duty to serve the Fatherland is to fill its empty coffers. Thus, it will be death-defying heroes whose cry of “I smoke for Germany!” resounds across the battlefields of tax policy, saving their country and leading it into a glorious future! In addition to her technical talent, Dorit David demonstrates a keen sense of irony, which she is able to convey in the most striking way possible.
