The legendary comic artist Edika, master of absurd humor, has died
He passed away one day before his 85th birthday • A great artist who went down in history for his surreal and provocative stories
One day before his 85th birthday, the great Édouard Karali, known as Edika, passed away, leaving the world of comics and cartoons much poorer.
The French legend became known as the master of absurd humor, with his sketches being satirical but also obsessive.
He was one of the main contributors to the magazine Fluide Glacial, which announced his death on social media.
Born in Egypt, Edika lived many years in Lebanon where he worked in the advertising industry. There he discovered an issue of the magazine Fluide Glacial, which had been founded by another "hero" of comics, Gotlib, and the freedom of expression and humor captivated him.
He initially collaborated with Pilote before starting his long and successful partnership with Fluide Glacial.
Known for his ugly characters with big noses and starring the "classic" French petit bourgeois Bronski and the legendary cat Clark Gable, Edika often flirted with provocation and pornographic humor, but his lines and especially his paranoid scenarios made him stand out.
In Greece, many of his works have been published in books and collections.
